A solo exhibition questioning the relationship between hard and soft, presenting more than 10 new objects.

FÄRG & BLANCHE will present their latest work in a large solo exhibition summarizing their tailoring approach to furniture design. On show a series of new products and new techniques featuring metal stitched furniture items. The show will also present previous launched products such as the Frankie series from Johanson.

The 200 square meter Teatro Arsenale, formerly a church that today is used as a theatre, will for a week be transformed in an experimental laboratory questioning the relationship between hard and soft materials, production methods, and shapes.

After sewing in wood, the Swedish-French design duo, Fredrik Färg and Emma Marga Blanche are now turning their heavy-duty sewing machine to metal, being the frst to create new furniture by stitching in metal directly with a sewing machine. ”We have been playing with the values behind what is soft and what is hard in both material and shapes for a long time.” says Fredrik Färg. ”When we combine a hard material with a soft technique, like when we are stitching in wood with our WOOD TAILORING™ technique, we manage to give the hard a soft look.”

The show is made in collaboration with Johanson, Bolon, Asplund, Gärsnäs, Kvadrat mentioning a few.

Address: Teatro Arsenale, via Cesare Correnti 11. 5 VIE, Art + Design District
Exhibition period: Milan Design Week 2017, 4-9 april.
Time: 10.00 – 20.00

Shima and Rib gets attention!

Johanson received awards in this year's "BDIA Ausgesucht" (BDIA selected). It is the German organization for interior designers BDIA behind the arrangement. Shima and Rib qualified for a 1st and 3rd place.

Various objects were included in the poll. Everything was done in two classes, and "People's Choice" which took place online, as well as ballot in BDIA. The products were evaluated in three key criteria: design, functionality and usability.

Johanson excelled in both people's choices BDIA ballot.

People roll first prize fell on the Berlin-based design trio Böttcher Henssler Kayser product, Shima. Shima is a hybrid piece of furniture with stylish design and ergonomic design offers comfortable seating and resting positions for both work and relaxation.

It was the first time it offered an open online voting and this time was SHIMA gratifyingly winner. It's fantastic that such a professional and serious actor BDIA attention Johanson. We additionally honored with a third place for the Rib in the secret ballot is tremendously huge, says Paul and Dan Johanson.

The motivation for third place reads: RIB: extremely robust - while very comfortable. Exceptionally light and strong with simple design In addition to that documented sound absorbing properties. It is through their choice of sustainable materials (recycled PET bottles) an environmentally-friendly alternative. This deserves recognition! / Claudia Schütz, Vizepresidäntin BDIA

Johanson furnish the Church of Sweden in Hamburg

Following extensive renovations to the Gustavus Adolphus Church on Ditmar-Koel-Strasse in Hamburg, Johanson was commissioned to furnish the modern, refurbished premises.

Grand Opening!

Johanson has teamed up with Studio Tag to open a showroom in Manhattan, New York. Please feel free to visit us (at 321 West 44th street suite) next time you plan a trip to the Big Apple.

Rib contribute to a good sound environment
Noise is a villain who creates stress and illness. There is a variety of ways to decorate a room for reducing the noise level. We at Johanson has for some time been working with sound issues and come far in our development of sound absorbers. Obviously, even the furniture we choose can have a better or worse effect on the overall sound that is created.
With Rib, designed by Alexander Lervik, shows a survey conducted by the Acoustics Workshop in Lidköping that the chair has clear sound absorbing capacity. The sharp filt covering the chair's seat and back helps to keep the noise level in the ear level and contribute positive effects.
- The result of the measurement is pleasing. We have noticed that Rib contributed to a good acoustic environment in which it is placed. Now that we have good test results from an independent part feels great, says Dan and Paul Johanson.
Rib holds in addition to their positive characteristics in absorption even a Nordic Ecolabel and the felt material is made from recycled PET bottles.
Pilot with better seat comfort
Recent improvements to Pilot mean that the chair is now more comfortable than ever to sit in. That is one of the advantages of producing furniture inhouse – the potential for constantly modifying and improving the range is just a stone’s throw away.
